The Springdale Graphite Project

The Springdale Graphite Project is a 100% owned 50 Square Kilometre exploration licence E74/562 located 30 kilometres east of Hopetoun, Western Australia. The Springdale Graphite Project hosts an exciting new graphite discovery and an unexplored reworked Springdale Greenstone Belt prospective for Gold and Nickel mineralisation.

Latest Developments

All four diamond drill holes at the Springdale Project have intersected high grade graphite, with total graphitic carbon (TGC) of up to 22.3%.  The following section lines show the projected mineralised zones correlating data from both the diamond drilling program and the initial aircore program.

Location Assets

The Springdale Graphite Project lies in the Albany Fraser Orogen which hosts the Halberts Graphite Deposit near Munglinup, an area that has produced the bulk of Western Australia’s mined graphite. The land is well positioned with a sealed road 20km away and access to port facilities at Esperance within 150km.

 

 

Springdale First AC Drilling Results

 

First Pass Aircore Drilling Program

Comet conducted a successful first pass aircore drilling program in February 2016. This program confirmed that graphite was present in a prospective horizon.

All holes intersected graphite mineralisation over approximately 500 metres of strike with a shallow dip to the east. Intersections from this drilling with total graphitic content (TGC) grade are shown in the table to the left.

Graphite Flake Sizes

 

Jumbo Graphite Flakes

Select drill chips were analysed to determine flake size. Large to jumbo flakes of graphite have the highest market value and they are common in the majority of samples submitted from the Springdale Graphite Project. Some flakes were up to 500 µm in size.

The drill results combined with the reported flake size provided a positive assessment of this project leading to a second drilling program that commenced in August 2016.   Diamond holes have been drilled to define the depth and strike extension of the discovered graphite zone. In addition an air core drilling program has been completed to investigate other prospective graphite zones and areas with potential for gold and nickel mineralisation.

 

Graphite was logged in all diamond holes and 40 air core holes. Four HQ diamond holes were drilled totalling 282 metres from which samples have been prepared for assay and metallurgical test work. All four diamond drill holes intersected high grade graphite.
